1. Initiation Stage

 
Age 6 - 8 Years

Structured and flexible program (not periodised). A total of 6 hours per week of tennis training, team and fun matches, co-ordination etc

FIRST PRIORITY: FUN

PHYSICAL SKILLS
- Warm up
- Coordination
- Movement and balance
- Throwing, jumping, running
- Cool Down

TACTICAL SKILLS
- Serve, return, and play from baseline
- Ball over and in (Consistency)
- Move players (Accuracy)
- Basic ready position and court positions to contact ball

TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Basic actions and shapes of strokes
- Learning ball characteristics

MENTAL SKILLS
- How to score
- 100% effort
- Winning and losing
- Respect other players

OTHER SPORTS FOR COORDINATION etc
- Swimming, cycling, dancing
- Soccer, netball etc

2. Instructional & Development Stage

 
Age 9 - 12 Years

For 9: Structured and flexible program (not periodised). A total of 9 hours per week of tennis training, team and fun matches,  co-ordination etc

For 10: Structured and periodised program.

PRIORITY: TRAINING

PHYSICAL SKILLS
- Complex Coordination
- Movement and balance
- Speed, strength, flexibility, core stability
- Cool Down

TACTICAL SKILLS
- All games situations and doubles

TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Basic strokes sound with racket head speed

MENTAL SKILLS
- Understanding ability and effort
- More independent
- Able to be concentrate
- Working with others in practice
- Coping with winning and losing

OTHER SPORTS FOR COORDINATION etc
- Swimming, cycling, dancing
- Soccer, netball etc


3. Performance Stage

Age 13 - 16 Years

Structured and periodised program.

PRIORITY: COMPETING

PHYSICAL SKILLS 
- Depending on maturity
- Speed, strength, flexibility, core stability
- Endurance

TACTICAL SKILLS
- Play offensively
- Own games style
- Tactics on different surfaces

 TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Develop power and use of spin
- Different additional strokes

 MENTAL SKILLS
- Able to set goals
- Self-disciplined
- Concentrates well
- Pride in performance

OTHER SPORTS TO HELP SPEED AND ENDURANCE etc
- Swimming, cycling, dancing
- Soccer, netball, basketball, hockey etc

4. High Performance Stage

Age 16/17 onwards

Structured and periodised program.

PRIORITY: WINNING

PHYSICAL SKILLS
- Individual programs for speed, endurance, power, strength, flexibility, core stability 


TACTICAL SKILLS
- Using strengths
- Controlling points
- Able to adjust tactics

 TECHNICAL SKILLS
- All shots with power and spin as appropriate
- Full use of variation and different strokes

MENTAL SKILLS
- Understanding ability and effort
- Fully independent
- Positive and disciplined
- Self-responsible

OTHER SPORTS FOR COORDINATION etc
- Hockey, basketball, soccer, swimming etc
